6-03-10

Just a quick note to let you know we’re fine.

Status: 9.0/10.    Got up early to make our 7:30 AM appt at Hopkins (blood work, LP, consultation).  Long day, and didn’t get home until about 3 PM.  So Lisa and I are a little tired.  We’ll fill you all in tomorrow.

Events:  Looking forward to a quiet and restful weekend.  Next week is busy with Rachel’s graduation, parents in town, end of year parties.

Comments: Grateful for the continued well wishes, thoughts, and support.

Love to all,

-Bruce

    Bruce…
Thanks so much for writing these updates, even the short ones. Those of us who care about you are always eager for news, even if it’s a tiny snippet.
I trust you are getting rested up and those quads are growing stronger by the day.
Much love to you and the amazing Lisa,
    Sheryl

Hi Bruce…advice from my long ago physical therapy days – try some isometric quadriceps exercises while lying in bed or sitting with your leg extended. I am leaving New Orleans after spending 5 days with Margaret. We painted her dining room wall. Spending time with her is so special to me. Take care. Hugs to you and the family.

B-I agree with the exercise concept that Judie suggested. My patients say they can’t exercise due to kidney disease fatigue, not feeling well post dialysis, etc. However, wanting his prosthesis after a below the knee amputation,1 patient while lying or sitting in the dialysis chair for hours used his dialysis time to “bicycle” and lift his legs. I continue to use him as an example of how you can “exercise” anywhere and anytime. Congratulations to Rachel on her graduation. Have fun with family this coming week. Wendy

Yes, and I will have dinner waiting for her when she does get home. But for you, you should know that Heather Harrell read your blog post about rounding teams yesterday in a Grand Rounds session which is an annual teaching presentation. Most of the readings were reflective writings from our students on their clerkships, but your comments were extremely timely and appropriate, and well received. Glad you’re through the nastiness.
